Kantar, a London based insights and consulting company has conducted research on online video consumers and found that most of the users are above 45 years of age.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 virus, people were restricted from traveling to even nearby cities and places. This made people stay confined in their homes due to the rapid spread. With limited sources for entertainment, people focused their attention on OTT and other digital content platforms.

According to Kantar, people in small cities watch more online videos compared to those in metro cities. It has also found that there is a 25% increase in online video users since last year. The number increased to 294 Million in December last year.

In 2019, Hotstar conducted similar research where the findings revealed that around 81% of OTT users are above 35 years. Lucknow, Patna, and Pune were the main cities of online video consumption and not the metro cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.

The internet users’ growth has also increased to 11% from last year as per the report by Kantar. This has shown how not only youngsters but everyone enjoys the OTT contents and how times are changing in the media industry
