Hyderabad Startup Leven Medical Launches Smart Ventilators

Leven Medical, a Hyderabad-based start-up, has brought into market three ventilators, under the brand name ‘Levent’ which has a wide range of functions combined with artificial intelligence and machine learning. It gives out details to medical practitioners which aids them to make informed decisions. The company is also planning to manufacture sterilized ventilators.

Along with HSC, the startup has received advisory support from the University of California Berkeley, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and researchers from all over the world. The ventilators will be manufactured in Hyderabad with a capacity of 1,500-2,000 ventilators per month.

Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, IT and Industries, Government of Telangana, who formally launched the ventilators said, “Hyderabad is at the forefront of healthcare innovation. Leven Medical is setting a good example for Aatma Nirbhar Bharat. Realizing that there is a severe deficit of ventilators in hospitals, Telangana government-backed T-Works has also enabled the development of a ventilator at just Rs 50,000 while the imported ventilators cost Rs 5,00,000. Several of the Hyderabad-based defense companies are also pitching in by repurposing their units. We are now able to export ventilators. Leven has brought in a strong dose of technology with an artificial intelligence layer that helps capture patient data, helping in further medical interventions. The products also offer cybersecurity and this makes them intelligent and safe.”

Dr. Zaki Qureshey, Founder & CEO, Leven Medical, told Telangana Today, “We have conceived three models to offer disruptive solutions in this space. A basic model C5 (with five modes) is a portable and easy to use ventilator that complies with ICMR guidelines, which can be used in clinics and homes. ICU ventilator has nine essential modes and comes with state-of-the-art software. The smart ventilators come with advanced COVID-tracking solutions that can help in contract tracing.”

He added, “Demand for ventilators continues to grow as Coronavirus spreads at a rapid pace. Data shows that India had over 40,700 ventilators prior to COVID and because of the pandemic, it is predicted India may need one lakh ventilators by the end of this August and about five lakh by end of November 2020.”

The basic model will cost around Rs 90,000, the ICU ventilators will amount to Rs 9 lakh and smart ventilators will range among Rs 12-15 lakh.

The founder members of HSC Anjana Sinha, former director, National Industrial Security Academy (NISA), CISF and Prashant Gupta, head, Solutions-APAC, Verizon mentioned that HSC has made a platform for the development of these ventilators.
