 ShareChat Takes Over Circle Internet

Circle Internet, a hyperlocal information platform has been acquired by the Indian based social media platform, ShareChat.

Launched in 2018, Circle focuses on providing locally relevant information to the Indian users in their local languages. It was active in over 120 districts in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Kerala. The platform has around 1000 volunteers delivering content to the users.

Sharechat has a large user base in India housing 130 Million active users per month. The platform attained an immense success among Indian users as they provide contents in 15 Native languages. On this association, the 15-member team of Circle has joined with ShareChat to continue building its community-driven user-generated hyperlocal content ecosystem.

Commenting on this acquisition, Shashank Shekhar, CEO and Co-Founder of Circle said “Circle was started with a vision to provide trustworthy locally relevant information to Indian language internet users. The platform evolved as an invisible thread to bridge the gaps in content being made available to non-English speaking internet users, through relevant and contextual hyperlocal content. As we intend to scale up across India and replicate the model in other forms of the content genre through a robust UGC strategy, we could not think of anyone better than ShareChat to partner in the journey. With the help of their wide reach, expertise in the language-first approach, powerful content serving algorithms, we will soon be reaching out to the majority of the districts across India. We are excited to be a part of ShareChat.”
