Skyroot, India’s first private space launch vehicle maker has successfully completed its first engine fire test. The company aims to make space travel accessible and affordable in the near future.
Following SpaceX, the private space industry is seeing considerable changes and growth in the market. Skyroot, which is located in Hyderabad was founded by Pawan Kumar Chandana, a former engineer at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Skyroot which is made up of a team of rocket engineers has raised a funding of $4.3 Million for their Vikram test launch series.
Vikram-1 is the launch vehicle on which the company is currently working on and is determined to launch it by December 2021. Now, this test engine nicknamed “Raman” after the Indian Nobel Winner, Sir C V Raman has proved to be successful and is considered to be a great leap in their project. They use a 3D printed propellant projector, which would reduce 50% of the engine mass and reduces the time consumption in construction.
Following Vikram-I, they are now working on Vikram-2 and Vikram-3 which are their next-generation space vehicle getting ready to be tested by 2022 and 2023. The company is now hoping to gather funds of around $15 Million by 2021.
Skyroot will be conducting the test-fire for the rockets under development within the next six months.
