How Social Media Influencers Are Surviving This Sudden Hit?
The COVID-19 pandemic lockdown has taken its toll on the lives of social media influencers and also had a bigger impact on their incomes and revenues.
In these tough times, certain social media influencers have seen a sudden drop in their practices while some have seen a growth in their followers.
Karan Dua, a food blogger has said that every content creator is suffering due to this pandemic and all their collaborations, his sponsored tours for World Street Food Festival in Dubai have also been canceled. But despite all this, his videos on homemade recipes have been gaining revenues and viewership as he couldn’t step out to carry out his passion these days.
Soumya Sharma, who is the co-founder and head of digital marketing firm ‘WeBee Social’ says, “Wellness and fitness influencers have been able to increase their followers as they are using this opportunity to now talk about health and how people should take care of themselves during the current situation.”
The travel bloggers are the most likely victims of this revenue loss. Shivya Nath is a travel blogger who quit her corporate job in 2011 to pursue her interest in travel and blogging. But due to these lockdowns, there is a massive downfall in her revenue. But with the support of her followers, she is now sharing the stories of her previous travels which helps her keep the spirit of travel still afloat.
Nishi Srivatsava, who is the admin of “The Craftsutra,” an arts and crafts page says that all their works came to a sudden halt and they were pretty clueless as their work mainly required them to go outdoors. “While people are not inclined to buying clothes these days, there is a demand for DIY(do it yourself) kits and customized hand-made products, which is exactly what we are focussing on,” she added.
On the contrary, Neha Bangia Gulati had a significant rise in her income and followers that she had to say no to her overwhelming increase of collaboration requests. Gulati is a fitness trainer and a mother of two who runs a page called “That Fit Mum” on Instagram.
Though these influencers are facing certain difficulties in these critical times, they are still hopeful that better times are ahead and the world will return to the state of normalcy soon.
