Cable TV Operators in Nepal Switches Off Indian News Channels Except Doordarshan
Nepal has taken a new step amidst the ongoing tensions between the two nations, India and Nepal after Kathmandu issued a new map showing some portions of Indian territories in their Map in May. Nepal’s Cable TV providers have announced that the signals of Indian news channels in their country have been switched off except Doordarshan, though the official orders for the same have not been released yet.
“We have turned off the signals of the Indian Channels from this evening,” Dhruba Sharma of Mega Max TV, a Channel operator of Nepal confirmed to ANI.
The decision by Nepal’s Multi-System Operators (MSO), comes after former Deputy Prime Minister and Spokesperson of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Narayan Kaji Shrestha expressed his thought saying that the Indian media must stop the “baseless propaganda” against Nepali Government and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Shrestha, through a tweet on Thursday, expressed his concern and disbelief on the extent to which some media channels in India have gone to defame the current government.
