The Mumbai Police have let out the details of the investigation two days after Bollywood rapper Badshah was summoned by the police. As per the reports, the singer has agreed that he had paid a sum of Rs. 75 lakh for the advertisement of his single number ‘Pagal Hai’.
Badshah and his team were contacted by Zee News on Saturday evening. Later, they issued a statement in which Badshah has denied the charges which were earlier confirmed by the Mumbai Police. The statement further said that the singer never involved himself with such activities and is ready to co-operate with the investigations of the Mumbai Police, regarding the allegations set on him.
Police, on the other hand, is investigating whether the money which is paid by the singer to the advertising agency is solely for the purpose of fake followers or it has been used for other reasons. All the documents relating to the case is with Zee News. Badshah on Monday (August 10, 2020) needs to present himself near the Mumbai Police because his claim of making a world record with 7.5 crore views for his song in a day is denied by Google.
The case dates back to 2019 when Chtrbox which is a leading social media influencers marketing company was accused of leaking private data of 49 million Instagram Users. Defending itself, Chtrbox released a statement on August 9, 2020, in which it denied the allegations saying that it does not in any manner claim any representation of any influencer/talent in whatsoever nature.
Pranay Swarup CEO of Chtrbox is also under investigation. The company has included names such as Virat Kohli, Priyanka Chopra, and Badshah as its clients, in one of its popular tools Boombox.
Sources from Mumbai Police say that most of the names in the company’s client list are fake which on the contrary is denied by the company, and it claims to have 30,000 people in its client list and an earning of Rs.9 crore.
The crime branch has asked the list of followers from Badshah and it happens to be a case that is first of its kind where a Bollywood celebrity has faced charges regarding fake followers. Mumbai Police has marked its success when it revealed social media fake followers racket and names of some big Bollywood celebrities, sports personalities, and some high profile builders. The case was filed after Bollywood singer Bhumi Trivedi had found a fake profile of hers on social media. The Mumbai Police so far could unveil the names of few Bollywood celebrities sports personalities and as many more totaling up to 176 high profiled people who have paid to get followers.
